Tate Modern Trip
After going on the trip to the Tate Modern, I feel as though the experience has really widened my knowledge of photography and inspired me to take more photos as well as understand the way photographers make choices. We went to the Tate for the main exhibition - 'The Radical Eye' - an exhibition of a collection of photos owned by Sir Elton John. Some of the work within the exhibition that I really found interesting and inspiring were by the photographers: Edward Weston, Irving Penn, Man Ray, Moholy Nagy, Harry Callahan, Dorothy Norman, Toni Schneiders, Werner Mantz, Robert Frank and Walker Evans.

Threshold Concepts
During the trip, I managed to photograph in the style of three threshold concepts. I had hoped to photograph in the style of more of the concepts however I didn't manage to as I was too busy appreciating the artwork. The threshold concepts that I did manage to complete, however, were TC 1, TC 4, TC 5 and TC 6.
Threshold Concept 1:
In this concept I had to photograph myself with a work of art in a way that created a relationship with it - this meant I had to mimic a pose/shape/gesture or facial expression. I had to show how I was interacting with it.
I decided to mimic the same pose as I think the girl in the photograph was very striking in the way that she stood and I wanted to create the same effect. |
Threshold Concept 4:
In this concept I had to photograph the gaps between works of art so that they are visible on either edge of the frame.
I decided to photograph the gap whereby the frames were not aligned perfectly, this was because I wanted to photograph the contrast in the size of gap, I also wanted to make something very slightly abstract even though it was very basic. |
Threshold Concept 5:
In this concept I had to count how long someone observes a piece of artwork for, then set the shutter speed of the camera to that amount of time, and record with the camera, leaving the shutter speed open to that amount of time..
I observed a lady who was admiring this sculpture for 35 seconds, so that's how long I recorded it for. |
Threshold Concept 6:
|
In this concept I had to observe other people photographing in the gallery, then try to stand in the exact same position and take the same photograph.
I decided to photograph Noah taking a photograph and then photograph what he had previously captured. |
